I have a 1938 Chevy Master 4 door. I'm trying to remove the fuel tank so I can replace the sending unit. I removed the bottom strap with the t bolts, but I can't remove the upper straps. The front of the top straps go thru the cross member, but I can't seem to bent the tabs to get them out of the slots. Is there a trick to getting them out of the slots?

They should just drop down. It may be they are rusted in place but they aren't mounted in place. Pull on the back end of the upper straps and they should pull straight down and out.

OK i feel silly now. I guess you don't have to remove the upper straps to remove the fuel tank. The next morning i went out there, and the tank feel to the ground by it's self. It appears the upper straps are there just to guide the tank in the correct location.
