i have a '49 chevy 4 door sedan which someone has painted inside and out with a brush. it was originally a 2 tone grey, grecian and ? the color looks like battleship grey and blue. can someone tell me what modern day colors most closely match the original as well as the brown interior color also, it was painted black. this will never be a show car, just a play pretty. thanks walt

the combonation was Grecian Grey body with a Vista Grey top and Argent Silver pinstripes on the rims... the Vista grey is a duco#20736307 , Grecian Grey is duco#2537869 and argent silver duco#2894202, paint combo #394 if that helps.

thanks for the reply. that is correct, grecian grey and vista gray. i don't know what a duco # is. i did come up with a number one time and took it to the paint store but they couldn't match it. i hope to find someone who already has reserched and found recent paint #'s that will most closely match. also, the dash appears that it may have been maybe brown on the bottom and maybe a gold color on the top, any info on this???? thanks very, very much walt

Lots of places supply the original paint for the exterior. Many advertise in various magazines. You can buy color paint chips for your car if you prefer to have a local store match it. The tough part is getting the right paint for the interior. I've been trying to get paint for the interior of my 50 without my success. I do have the Duco numbers for the paint but no one seems to have a cross reference for them to available paints. If anyone knows of a place that supplies Duco color paints I'd sure like to hear from them.

Greacian and Vista gray should be easy to mix with todays colors as the are mainly black and white.
The original mixing formula for Grecian Gray was-30 5/8 ounces of white,3/4 oz. black and 5/8 oz. of Ferrite yellow.
Vista Gray is 13 1/4 oz black, 10 3/8 oz white, 4 3/4 oz Ramapo Blue and 3 5/8 metalic base.
Ferrite yellow and Ramapo blue were the names of mixing colors years ago.Today I would choose a medium yellow and the blue would be a soft medium blue. These combinations should get you close to the original.
I have an original 1950 in solid Grecian Gray.It is a light gray and looks almost cream under some lighting conditions-this is due to the yellow used. The Vista gray is a blue-gray color and between medium and dark.
I have a qt. of Greacan Gray that was mixed years back for the '50.It mentions a French car-color Canvas gray on the lable. It may have been tinted to match but its a perfect match for my original. Can't get at the can right now to get the car make.
Two years ago I ordered a gallon of the original nitro-cellulose lacquer Grecian gray from Hibernia Restorations for the '50.Gallon was the smallest size available.Cost over $100 an was way too dark in color.
The top of the dash and the window garnish mouldings were a dark metalic brown on the DeLuxe as well as the steering column and inner part of the steering wheel. The lower dash and the rim of the steering wheel were the medium gold-tan metallic color. You should find some samples by removing the inner windshield mouldings or horn button or inside of glove box door.

Correction-Should read the TOP of the dash and the window garnish mouldings should be the Gold-tan color on the DeLuxe series
