The coil on my 28 landau does not have + or - on the posts. How do you know which wire goes where

The + wire goes to the resistive unit on top. (The round device). The single terminal goes to the distributor.

Your coil should be labeled TIMER for the single contact. The + terminal is labeled BAT.

A correct 28 coil will have a female connection on the side where the center wire from the distributor is connected.
