I just aquired a 53 pickup that looks unmolested. Did they come out with the 216 or like my book says, a 235? or both. Also it has sat for quite a long time and it only carries about 30 lb compression in each cylinder. Is there any thing besides a ring job that will cure the problem? thanks krnut

1953 trucks-1/2 ton thru 1 1/2 tons used a 216 engine. This would be the high side cover engine. The low compression could be the result of dry cylinder walls and stuck rings.Remove the plugs and add about 4 Oz. of Marvel Mystery oil to each cylinder. Also remove the valve cover and lube the valve guides -squirting M M O thru the valve springs.
