I just received two pair of incredible high quality Running Board Rubber mats for my 1933 Phaeton from I&I. I am not going to use them for probably 2 years and want to know the best way to store them to keep them fresh. Right now they are laying flat on top of each other in a box. Should I put paper between them? Coat them with something? Leave along? Any ideas??

Thanks. i did that and they said use Vaseline or any protectant. I did not think petroleum based chems were good though.

I agree about the Vaseline. I use WD-40 on my running board rubber and it seems to work well, but I am not sure others would recommend it.

Keep them in the box in the Trunk of your car if it's inside.

Use John Deere Ultra Guard, There is no better rubber protection on the market IMHO. Petroleum based products will eventually dry out the naturals oils in the rubber. Ultra Guard will keep rubber like new.

I bought a set of rubber GM running board covers NOS in 1982….I frequently lube them with Neatsfoot oil…just like I used to do with my baseball glove!…I also use the same on my 64 SS dash cover…never an issue with either…Billu38

Hi. I have always used Black "Kiwi" Boot polish or "Nugget"brand Boot polish on rubber running board mats and also on tires it not only protects the rubber it also gives them a good shine.
I don't know if you can purchase either of these brands in USA. Surprisingly I spied Kiwi boot polish for sale in Bangkok Thailand just last week.
