Hi all, in the duco color charts it lists that the color for the disc wheel is the body color but does not list the color for the wire wheels. My car is a 30 standard coupe using the # 29 combination. HELP

Looking at other color combinations for the 1930 Chevrolets, the wire wheels are either: body color, moulding color, stripe color, Chermonte Cream, Shalimar Orange or black. I understand that leaves a confusing array of options. Maybe Skipper the 1930 TA has more documentation on the optional wire wheel color for Combination 29. Of course if you replace those wire wheels then we know that the disc wheels are body color.

When the color charts initially came out in late 1929 and early 1930 only the sport models, like the sport coupe, had wire wheels so the color combinations for those specific models included wire wheel colors. However, up until April of 1930, all other models, like your standard coupe, came with disc wheels so the color combinations listed the colors for disc wheels only.

If you have wire wheels on your standard coupe then you will have to pick a wire wheel color from some other 1930 color combination that will go well with color combination number 29.

Hey Doggie,
If he picks a color and has the car judged in VCCA judging how does he document the wire wheel color?

There is no documentation that I have seen regarding the later paint colors used on the wire wheels for earlier models other than the sport models that came from the factory with wire wheels. However, he could probably use the disc wheel color specified in color combination number 29 on the wire wheels.

Oh my gosh, Doggie I was thinking the same. At least there is documentation for that wheel color. And VCCA Judges should be aware that wire wheels were available from Dealers as extra cost options or accessories. Would have to have the wire wheel spare tire carrier to be correct.

Hey Billy Boy Barker!

I check your web site fairly often and I have seen the wire wheel colors that are on your site, but, unfortunately, the colors shown are no help with documenting the actual color that should be used on wire wheels for paint combination number 29.

Also, the color depicted for Shalimar Orange on my computer is not even close to the actual color that it should be.

Having done as much research as I can and looking at the zillion combinations it appears that most green colored cars it seems like most use the medium cream color for the wire wheels.

In lots of cases the wire wheel and the stripe are the same color.
