Hi;
I would like to remove our 1939 Master Deluxe steering wheel for some crack repairs.
Can someone give me the necessary steps?
Also, the horn button and steering wheel look like 2 colors of brown marble. Can someone give me the actual patter and colors?
Thanks;
David

Sounds as if you have the accessory wheel. Becareful to not loose or break any parts as they are difficult to find.

There is 2 small screws which keep the horn cap attached to the wheel hub, They are accessible from the underside of the wheel. Once the cap is removed , the wheel is held on to the steering shaft spline by a nut. You may need a two hole puller to pull the wheel off the spline. I would leave the nut on the shaft a couple of turns , but loose, and see if you can give it a heave by hand, and they will come off, but you don't want it slamming into your nose.

Once you get the horn button off & loosen the nut you can use a puller or, if you're limber enough, wedge your knees under the steering wheel & push up with you knees while you give the center nut a smart rap with a hammer. That's the way we did it when I was a young fellow in the body repair business. Even with a puller you'll get it off with less strain on the wheel by rapping the center nut with a hammer once you have a fair amount of tension on the puller. Good luck with it.

I generally use Tiny's idea but add a large brass drift between the hammer and the steering shaft, does less damage to the threads. Tony
