Hi guys. Does anyone know of someone who makes aftermarket body mounts for a 1940 Chevy master85. Mine are gone on both sides in the middle. It looks like I would have to weld them to the floor section. I'm in the Ocean City Maryland area and I can't find anyone who does this type of work. I also don't have the equipment to do it. Thanks. Hi Cliff,
I do not see body panel braces listed in the catalogs of our regular part suppliers for your 40. I think you will need to fabricate new ones or repair what you have. This is the type of job where it is hard to determine how far you should go. I had to decide whether to switch my body for one with a lot of hail damage and a bad cowl but with an excellent floor. I chose to do a lot of floor repairs. When I look at all the work I put into the floors I probably should have chosen the hail damaged body.
I also am a strong supporter of having a donor car to scavenge all types of parts from. I have had 4 cars around in the last 12 years that I take good parts from for resale and to use on my restoration. I saved each car only for a few months then resold it or sold the metal for scrap.
How you choose to repair your braces might depend on how much money you want to spend and the general condition of the surrounding floor panels and rocker panels? My body is being painted right now and for its preparation I re-cleaned up the floor for repainting. I found areas that I had repaired with the West System (fiberglass) required a grinder to remove the fiberglass. Areas that I had used POR 15 on could be cleaned up easily with a razor blade. Aggressive sand blasting worked poorly on both surfaces. The only thing bad about fiberglass is the potential for body flexing which could pop some of it loose. I filled or coated all my braces and the rocker panel I did not replace with fiberglass. I did this only after tediously cleaning out each brace and the one rocker panel.
I know that my choice of repair methods is not recommended but you do what you have the time and money for.

Cliff, Check with EMS in Cleveland, OH. They carry the lower front body mounts for 1940 and may have rear mounts available too. The lower front mounts (PT#546) sell for $118 pr. Their stampings are very high quality and USA made. Their number is 216-541-4585 web site: www.emsAutomotive.comTheir 51 parts are excellent and I'm having their rockers and quarter patch panels installed as we speak. Good luck.

My rockers and tail pan fit great and look fantastic. I highly recommend EMS.
