Hi,

I am restoring my Master Sport 1938. It has the original tail lights on borh left and right side (for park&brake light), like e.g part 927510CL/927511CR from Chevs of the 40s. . It is also mounted later some non-original separate rear turn-signals. (On the front sidee I use turn signals in the park light, i.e like 916957T from Chevs of th 40s).

I want to remove those 2 non-orignal turn rear signals and instead have the brake rear brake lamp to be the turn signal. of course the break signal shall still work normally (but not be turned on if the turn signal on a lamp is turned on).

I have a turn signal switch and the turn signal flasher, and all cabling is then done from the flasher to the tail. But what part can I add to tihs in order to have the turn signal to be connected to the tail lamp? Any parts from Chevs of the 40s or Fillingsation? And how do I do it.
My car is still having 6V.

Thanks in advance for any help.

One solution you might consider is to use two backup lights, one on each side, color the lens red and use them. A past member did that on his '38 and loved it. You can see here how the light mounts below the housing. It will mount the same on both sides.

You should not have to add parts. Your signal switch should have feeds going to the rear lights which you wire into left and right brake. Disconnect the existing feed to the brake light at the rear. Take the brake light feed from the Master Cylinder switch and connect it to the brake light input on your signal switch.

Hi,

Thanks. It was clever, using such a turn signal switch with a brake-light INPUT. I do not think it is this kind of swicth I have (with such an input), so I assume I need to purchase a new one. Is this what they call a "7-wire turn signal swithch", like 985720 from Chevs of the 40s or VT-10 or VT-3 from The Filling Station?

I did find a diagram like this on a topic in the forum:
https://vccachat.org/ubbthreads.php/topics/254627/Adding_Turn_Signals I think that is what you meant?

As turn signak was not original in 1938, an original turn signal switch is not possible to find. Wonder when it become standard, I see the Fillingstation sell turn signal switches starting at year 1953.

Thanks for very good help!

Haven't even thought about turn signals until now...I have a pair of OEM fender mounted parking lights that I plan to install one day, can use those as the turn signals now that I know these add-on signalers can handle the load on all 4 corners.

I think it would be worth the investment instead of using my arms, which I doubt most people these days know what they mean....
