Guys,

A couple years ago I installed a stock, rebuilt (by Chevradioman) 1938 radio in my 38 coupe. It worked very well. When I took the car out of winter storage this past spring and turned on the radio, I noticed that often (but not always) the speaking and singing on the radio sound like the people are gargling rather than speaking or singing clearly. Sometimes when I turn the car and change directions, it clears up and sounds perfect; but then a way down the road or another turn, and the gurgling begins again--this did not happen when the radio was first installed a couple years ago. Direction (i.e., north-south, east-west) doesn't seem to matter.

What has happened? I originally installed a condenser on the ammeter and another on the generator. Could one of these have gone bad? A loose tube? Bad ground? Other ideas? I'd love to have a clear sounding radio ALL THE TIME again.

Thanks for any insights.

Jim

I'm guessing that the speaker is going bad, but I am only guessing. I'll bet that the guy that rebuilt it will have an answer for you.

Send me the box. Don't need the speaker or control head. I'll check it out for you.
