I was going to replace my old distributor cap because of wear and had a new kit from the FS. When I tried to snap the clips on the sides of the new cap, I could not do it with my fingers like the original cap. After trying with no success I thought that I would measure both caps. The new on is about 3/16' taller than the original one. So it looks like unless I use a pair of pliers I will not be able to snap them in place. Has anyone had this problem before? mad I plan on calling Steve tomorrow.

I ordered their tune-up kit FS-6K a couple of weeks ago. It included a cap that I didn't install yet, but I just held it up next to the one on the car. The clip notches and everything else appear to match up exactly.
Maybe the packing folks threw the wrong one in your box. I see Made in China on the box. wink

Just got a tune up kit this past week myself. Now I've got to go check it to see if the cap is correct!

On mine the side looks a little taller. When you have time just set the new cap on the distributor and try to snap the clips in place. That will tell you if it is the same. I have two kits and they are both the same and not like the original one.

You're right ! I just tried mine and the clips wouldn't snap over. I suppose you could force it over but I didn't want to distort the clips. Odd because I can't see any real difference.
That's annoying….let us know what Steve says, if you get him.

Steve from The Filling Station here. Sal, this would be so much easier if you just call us first. You bought your kit back in 2012. That was when we first offered that kit and we had some NORS caps that we got from various suppliers. You just got a cap that was mis-boxed and we are happy to replace it.

We had our cap made from a NOS Delco cap and they fit great! Our caps are distinctive and easy to identify. If you look at the plug wire holes, ours are copper except for the primary wire in the middle that is brass.

We had Skip Geear test our caps on his distributor machine and they passed with flying colors. Not only that, but since we made our own cap, we have been able to keep the price low (check NAPA for a comparison). To date we have sold over 600 of these caps and are very proud of the quality.

Sal, give me a call and we will get you a replacement cap on the way.

I tested various samples of the latest run of 1929-32 distributor caps for the Filling Station on my distributor machine and I also compared each sample cap with a new old stock Delco-Remy distributor cap as well. Each reproduction cap that I tested not only fit perfectly on the distributor body but the distributor clips snapped onto the caps as they should.

I have used many of the Filling Station reproduction 1929-32 distributor caps on the distributor restorations for my customers, and, to date I haven't had a problem with the clips fitting on the caps. As a matter of fact I used two of the Filling Station caps a couple of weeks ago on a 1929 distributor restoration and a 1932 distributor restoration for customers. The clips fit fine on those also.

I went back again and tried my new cap. It certainly took some effort but I managed to snap it in place with no collateral damage. It must be just 'cause it's new and not the "wrong" cap as you have.
Steve ,I'll send you a PM on this also.
