Grease monkey 123 here.
Question When installing the fuel sending in the tank which way should the float face on a 51 chevy front to the rear of the car right or left this is with the tank installed? also with a adjustable fuel sending unit out of the tank if you adjust it to be on the empty dot on the gage and raise the arm and it reads full will this suffice when in the tank installed in the car?

Float only fit one way on mine. Float to the back.
And yes if you raise it should read full.

Theoretically it should. When you are satisfied with your E setting (I prefer a two gallon reserve) just flip the tank upside down and see if the gauge reads F.

If not (theoretically) shorten the float arm until it does. In actual practice you may have to add a resistor or potentiometer into the mix in order to calibrate the gauge.

In 51' you should have a 30 ohm sender if you have the original gauges. It is best to measure your tank depth then compensate for mount flange recess, etc. and build the sender dimensionally and testing before putting it in the tank.
