Hi everyone. My wiper switch will not shut off my wiper motor. Is it possible to make an adjustment, or does the whole assembly have to come out? Thanks, Mike

Evidently the switch arm is not contacting the lever properly to activate - deactivate the motor. The switch needs to be adjusted. Perhaps you can get to it with the motor in but it may much easier to take the motor out. Time fiddling with it in the way can be both annoying and poor use of your time.

You could get a piece of hose and put a stopper such as a golf tee in the end of it and pull the hose off the manifold and cut off the source of vacuum to the wiper motor. Then when it rains put is back the other way. Simple.

I notice that you are from NY. So, therefore, for a more professional looking job get two golf tees. One for the wiper hose and one for the cheater hose. Agrin

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately, you will have to check your linkage under the dash. The control assembly (on/off control) could have come out of alignment with the linkage on top of the wiper motor. In fact the linkage or control might be damaged. Until you have the time to check things out I would just disconnect and plug the vacuum line at the engine.

Working under the dash is going to require a lot of patience and a good light source. You may find it necessary to remove the radio and even the hoses for the defrosters. The worse case scenario might include the removal of the front seat so you can even lay flat on your back to do the work!!! I am not fond of working under the dash. It would surprise me if you don't end up removing the wiper motor to inspect everything.

Good luck, Mike

P.S. The wiper motor could also be loosely screwed in and ready to fall off its mount? Have you recently found a screw on the floor you do not know where it came from?

Thanks for the good advice. I am going to try to drop the motor, but I will keep a tee handy for the inevitable trouble. By the way, I found couch cushions make getting under the dash a little more bearable. Just have to do it when my wife is at work!
