hello, I had headlite lamps blowing out . I looked for bad grounds but no avail. Instead I purchased modern Alternator to better control stray voltage. Seems to work. Issue at hand is charging control. Would this require separate regulator?

You don't specify that you are running 12-volt, but that is my assumption. If you are running 12-volt, you should have purchased a single wire alternator. Solves all your problems.

There are internally regulated 6V as well as 12V alternators. Internally versus externally regulation is the main issue.

I assumed this would be a internally controlled. My amp meter will hit 15 amps at times.

back in 1992, our daughter drove our 54 corvette from maryland to the NCRS convention in so cal. i'd had trouble with generator failure on a previous trip from md to bend oregon a few years prior, so i had two 54 vet generators in my pickup/trailer hauling a 57 vet to california in 92. along the way, i replaced the generator twice but did make it home on the third 6 v gen. when i got home, i saw an ad in hemmings for 6 volt internal regulated alternators(about 60 bucks in 1994). that alternator is still on the 54. i believe the placement of the generator alongside the 235 with factory headers exposed them to excessive heat and they failed. mike

that is another deal. excessive heat near Alternator.wrapped heat shield to protect.i think this greatly increase the life of alternator.
