I would like to repair the cracks in my steering wheel. You Tube has 2 video's explaining the process. One uses POR 15's steering wheel repair kit POR 15 Steering Wheel Repair another uses KBS Numetal Epoxy Putty KBS Steering Wheel Repair . If anyone has repaired one of their wheels please comment on your repair process.

When the repairs are finished I ASSUME I would paint the wheel the same color as the garnish and dash?

Thanks, Mike

Mike,
I repaired steering wheels on three oldies ( '46 GMC, '53 GMC, and '47
Chevy) using epoxy putty after carefully grooving the cracks, sanding
using multiple grits, and spraying with three coats of acrylic enamel.
A tedious job, difference in hardness of the original wheel and epoxy
made sanding difficult. The degree of deterioration of the wheel rubber
may make a big difference in the results and usable life. Mine looked
decent and held up for two-three years then cracks returned. Storage
conditions may impact the life-hot/cold cycles. I only keep driver quality vehicles so gradual re-cracking is no big deal.If I were looking for high point resto I would pay for total renewal by vendor
which I plan to do with the '34 I am working on. Arthritis makes me.

For my two cents I had two steering wheels restored by this guy:

He did a terrific job.
