I have a 36 Chevy 5 window coupe , can anyone tell me how the seat cushion ( back part ) is held in at the top ? I know the bottom has 2 posts that go into the wood --- but the top ? Thanks , I can't seem to find out anything out there to help me out .

It doesn't sound like you have a coupe seat if the top is split and folds forward. Sounds more like a sedan seat. Can you post a picture or email one to me and I will post it - leagleton@yahoo.com. The coupe seat should look something like this:

Are you talking about the upholstery at the top of the seat? These seats were "hand stitched" on the back rest part of the seat, up the side and across the top/back. I found that out from my upholsterer who is 86 years old. He restored my seats to look just exactly like original. "They must have had for ever to make these seats. It took me 3 hours to "hand stitch" the back rests on one.", he said when I picked them up at his shop. He is a professional upholsterer who does a little work still.

When I bought the car 20 + years ago it did not come with a seat . I bought the seat from someone who thought it was from a 36 / 37 . Kind of make sense , why would the seat need to fold down when the car is a coupe ! So I guess it came out of a sedan . So when you put the seat down the top does not stay attached to the back . I will e-mail a picture as sone as I can locate it in my files . Thank you !

Although this is for a Master. May not be all that different, I'm not sure on 36.

You may have the wrong seat for your car. I have bought parts from people who say that they are the right ones and they have turned out to be incorrect. Look in the directory for some one who has your car and contact them for photo's. Sedan seats are held to the bottom section by two chrome "L" shaped hinge plates. Chrome bolts under the bottom of the seat part and also through the side of seat back hold the hinge plate in place. Look under the seat to see if you have bolts in there and on the sides of the back rest.
