Part number 474051 is shown in the Feb 1933 parts catalog but not in the April 1934. There should be at least one more parts book in between. Can somebody supply me with the superseded part number? Thank you, Joe

It's a gas cap.

"Cap with Gasket, Gas Tank Filler 0.40 474051" is listed on page 30 of the "Standard Model Parts Price List; Supplement to February 15, 1933 Master Parts Price List; Effective April 10, 1933". Have a June '33 Body book but not chassis. That would suggest that there was a June '33 Chassis book as well. Maybe someone else has one? Brad Schaeffer or Bob Hensel?

It is interesting that 474051 is not listed in the April '34 Master Parts Book.

I also found it interesting that the part was already gone by 1934. Maybe vendor or part problems causing GM to find another vendor & issue a new part number. Hopefully someone can come up with an answer to my first post. Thank you, Joe

Joe,
In March of '36 part number 372696 is described as Filler cap with gasket, passenger and sedan delivery, (2 7/8" dia without vent) '33-'36 All.
By 1949 they were saying part number 607074 (2 7/8" O.D.) with baffle '31-'37 all Pass except BB and CB (which were pickups). Many other applications through '49 are also listed.
There is a Stant brand aftermarket cap G23 which used to be listed as more or less all Chevys from '28 through the 60s. It was the regular domed stainless cap with a grippable perimeter. I have some NORS caps which have an earlier look to them but I do not know the exact appearance of the 30s vintage caps when new.

hi Mike
Thanks for the research & the information you've provided. I would like to find out the next revision after the original number which was only around for a year or less. Although I would like to have the original, it will probably be an aftermarket replacement. I have pictures sent by GM Media Archives that I can make out the details of the cap real well. Regrettably per an agreement with GM I'm not permitted to share the pictures. Thank you, Joe

Joe,
I pulled out my Feb. '33 parts catalog to look at the info there. I noticed that there were no references to the Series CC. Checked the front of the catalog and also found no reference to the '33 Standard series. Is this before the introduction of the '33 Standard?
I assume you have information that leads you to believe the cap is the same for the Master and Standard '33s.

hi Mike
The CC was introduced March 1933. There is a supplement to the Feb 15, 1933 Master catalog that just covered the 1933 Standard dated April 10, 1933. That's where I first got the number & I went to the Feb 1933 catalog to see if it was special to the Standard. It was not. I still think there's a parts catalog from later 1933. I'm pretty sure I saw one on e-bay but missed it...Joe

Joe,
I wonder what is different about the caps they list for different body styles. They must all fit the same size neck since later part numbers cover all applications.
Some were described as larger diameter???

Unknown till I find some NOS caps to compare. Until then I will need to find a cap that does the job & looks like the picture I have from GM Media Archives. Thank, Joe

Joe,
Unless you can share at least the part of the photo showing the cap it will be a lone quest. If others can see what you are looking for then they may be able to add some information.

It's interesting that GM will share the photo with anyone who asks but doesn't want those folks to share with anyone else. Logic???

I suspect that the prohibition to share photos or documents is due to retention of copywrite and/or keep from others selling or otherwise profiting from documents or photos from GM Heritage Center. Never know what lawyers can come up with to complicate our lives.
