I just bought a near NOS Stewart Warner mechanical Tachometer, model 77B. It didn't come with a cable or gears to connect it to who knows where.

Where can I find these parts? Where should I connect it - I've heard distributor drive, cam shaft, and flywheel. Is there a primer on these instruments I can consult?

Thank you,
-L

The majority of tachometers are run off of a distributor drive or in some cases a crank drive adapter. Cables can be made by speedometer shops or most trucking outfits.

I forgot to mention generator drive tachometers, but those are calibrated to a different ratio than the above mentioned.
