Yes, there are formed dimples for relief from the rivets on my '31 front fenders.

Thanks for the reply.looks like I'm grinding the head of the rivits and welding them.

Why would your body shop remove the factory formed dimples on the fenders for the frame rivets when obviously those dimples belong on the fenders?

Yea that's a shame that they did that (flattened 'em). Otherwise you'd be DONE. I assume that it's already painted, etc? If not, then you could easily re-create them.

Never thought about grinding and welding the rivets. That should work too.

Lack of knowledge. They probably thought they were doing him a favor-like the plating shop that filled in the recess in the center of my 32 headlight bars where the clamp bolt goes.

Not only is it a lack of knowledge but a lack of common sense as well. Since the dimples were obviously stamped into the fenders at the factory the body shop should have checked into the situation to see if the dimples belonged in the fenders before automatically making the fender flanges totally flat.

I feel the same way right now. So I'm thinking abt taking them back and let them redo what they screwed up.I have found out if you bring your vintage car to these body shops seams like no one doe's there home work.My falt I guess.these parts went trough three body shops and some good one to but all have said we have never done a 31.And I told them they were to stay in the fenders. So now I will get then lined up and take a hammer and ping the fenders were the rivits go and say put um back in.

Definitely do that since it is their fault that they screwed up the fenders in the first place.
