My 35 1/2 ton truck motor mounts, front and rear are 1/4 inch rubber pads. There is no transmission mount. Doesn't sound correct. Can anyone describe how their engine and trans is mounted ?? Pictures would be a big help. Thanks, appreciate any feedback.

35 truck,

Why don't you check with jaycross in Missouri on this forum? He has one of those trucks. My '36 PU has mounts at the front and rear of the engine and at the back of the trans.

There are 2 versions of the engine rear mount, solid metal and rubber insulated. It's easy to replace the rubber cushions in the engine rear mount and trans mount. The front mounts are common on ebay and fit a wide range of truck years. Here'e one on ebay right now for under $7 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Engine-Mount-Front-Center-DEA-TTPA-A2007-/161718254417?fits=Make%3AChevrolet%7CModel%3ATruck&hash=item25a728bb51.

Street rod builders are an excellent source of those and lots other items that they pull off and often discard. When I converted my '36 PU from 4.11 to 3.55 rear gears both the '37 Chevy car and '51 Chevy car rear axles that were used to make that conversion came to me from street rod builders in perfect condition for scrap iron prices.

The front mount is readily available. It goes under the front cross member. The side mounts are the same as '32 Passenger cars and I believe The Filling Station has them.

Mike,

Old engine side mounts are easily repaired by heating the tabs that surround the rubber to red heat and opening them. Then the rubber is easily replaced and the tabs squeezed shut in a bench vise.

The trans mount is even easier to do because the rubber is riveted between 2 pieces of steel (a rubber "sandwich").

Why pay a lot for something that is so simple to do at home? I did mine in the early 1970s and they are still fine today.
