I have just discovered that the rounded cover of the lower part of the fly-wheel area is missing on my 1931 Chev. I do not know what the name of this part is or where I might look to find it. Can anyone help me?

They come up for sale fairly often on eBay. Also advertise in "parts wanted" on this site. Part shouldn't be too hard to find.

I do not know what the name of this part is

The part is called the "Flywheel Underpan" and it is listed in the 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book. If you don't have a reprint of the 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book you can purchase one from TFS in Lebanon, Oregon.

If you get a reprint "parts book" be sure it's the August '32 copy. It has more information and illustrations than the Feb. copy.

I will take a look. I need to determine if the engine is a 30 or 31. I understand that there is a problem with the cover when the engine is a 30 and the chassis is a 31.
