Good Day Guys
My 32 Chev does not have degrees marked on the flywheel. I just set the mark on the flywheel to line up with the pointer on the bell housing.
When I assembled the engine about 6 years ago, I set the timing by rotating the flywheel by hand (engine off) to line up with the timing mark. Then rotated the distributor until I saw a spark across the points. It was good enough to get the engine running. But it was way off with the engine running. The mark on the flywheel did not even show up in the bell housing window.
So setting the timing the conventional way solved my hot crank problem and also improved the idle smoothness.
If I build another one of these engines Im going to make a timing mark on the right side of the engine. That way the timing mark and distributor is on the same side of the car.
Bye for now
Mike
