In many of my post I reference the spec. sheets, also, the engineering manual and service bulletins. Mostly the years of '47 and '48.

My question is, how much credence to put in these reference materials. Are they like the "Holy Grail" or what. These pretty much dictated what the dealers went by, right?

I would say the above is usually 100% correct.
General advertising and accessory material can be more miss leading.
The service bulletins and shop manual were about the only thing dealers went by + any new car ordering info.
