I have new brake shoes and new cables. I am ready to do the final adjustments, but run into trouble when it says to loosen the centralizer bolt and tap it with a hammer. I am not sure what and where the centralizers are and how to proceed with any adjustments. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

The brackets that retain the camshaft bearing assy's are the equalizers. From my Raybestos manual." Centralize cam carrier brackets with pull rod disconnected and pivot bolt and lock loose. Expand shoes by turning adjuster screw. Then apply cam hard with a monkey wrench and tap cam allowing it to assume a central position. Then tighten pivot and lock bolts. " The basic process is to center the cam so it equally applies the shoes.

Thanks! That will be my next step, hopefully on the way to good brakes.

Here's another page that might help you.

If that doesn't work, then come to the next Garage Night on July 8th.
