I bought this 1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe at the Jefferson car show last fall. I was told it was a barn find out of Rochester MN, and an all original numbers matching vehicle. Would someone please help to locate the numbers to prove it is for sure a number matching car. Here is the VIN: 24AG0116957. I found this sequence of numbers stamped into the engine block lower and just left of the distributor on the right side of engine block. AA406868 Would greatly appreciate some help please. Thank you, Gus 1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, all original.

To the best of my knowledge there's no such thing as "numbers matching" for that era vehicle. The engine number is not on the data plate and the unit serial number (on the data plate) is not on the engine. Most states used the engine number on the title through the mid 50s while some used the unit serial number. It looks like they used the unit serial number in your state. Number locations.

You can often find matching numbers if the paper work is still in the glovebox from when the car was delivered. Canadian cars had the body and engine #'s stamped on the data tag on the firewall. I'm not sure why American cars didn't pick that up until much later...

1941 engine numbers ranged from AA-1001 through 1163729. I think your serial number should began with 21 indicating the the was assembled in Janesville - as Minn. cars were shipped from that plant. The serial number indicates the car was assembled in Jan. 1941 production began in Sept. Your 406868 engine number places the engine in mid-year so the engines appears to be original. That being said numbers matching means casting dates on all parts are of the same month or one month off one way or the other. This would indicate all parts were original to that car.
Some day I will come over to see your '41. I will be at the Holz Car show on July 4th. If you want to enter your car let me know and I will send you a registration form. Also the Wisconsin Region of the VCCA has car car show at Andrew Chevrolet on Sunday June 28....I will be there also. A less hectic show than the Holz show which is aery croded.

I really want to make it to Holz, namely I grew up in Hales Corners. I am having rear brake problems. I rebuilt the wheel cylinders, including honing them out. They no longer leak. When they were leaking, the brake fluid completely disintegrated the break shoes. I got new shoes for both rear wheels, however, I have no clue on how to remove the shoes from the wheel. I have removed the upper part of the assembly connected to the cylinder, but the bottom of the shoes are fastened with various rivets? and heavy riveted springs? I do,have the 1941 shop manual, but after reading the procedure on page 131, steps 4-6 are unclear to me. Also thank you lots for the information on the numbers matching topic. Regards, Gus
