The radiator on my '31 had two rectangular pieces of metal that mounted between the tabs on each side and the grill shell. Do you guys' radiators have these plates as well? They are probably an inch tall and 12-15 inches long.

Thanks,

My 1930 Chevrolet radiator also has the same reinforcing plates mounted between the radiator and the shell.

There's a possibility that my old radiator was a 1930 radiator installed in my 1931 Chevy before I got it. Does anyone's '31 Chevrolet have these? If so, does anyone have a photo of them installed?

Thanks,

I may have just found the answer. I couldn't find anything by using the forum search tool so I typed Site:vcca.org in google and then typed in various search terms and it pulled up a previous discussion about these metal plates. Of course, since they have no real name, every person has a different name for them, making it hard to find info. According to what was determined in the previous thread, 1930 and older cars had these strips (perhaps not 1928??) but 1931 did not. I'm listing this in case anyone in the future searches for this info and cannot find it.

The parts in question do have a name. The plates are called "Shell Hood Ledge Reinforcements" and they were used on the radiator shell of the 1929-30 passenger cars.

Do you have a reprint of the 1929-32 Chevrolet parts book? If not, you might want to order one from the Filling Station since that book can answer a lot of your questions regarding various parts for your car.
