Quick question: Anyone know the name of the gizmo (if there is one) that allows both sides of the hinged hood to stay in the full open position at the same time ?

There's a variety of hood stuff in the FS catalog, unknown if any are applicable for my '32 Confederate.

It's getting old constantly opening and closing, opening and closing, to access the both sides
Thanks! bonk

The VT-41 in the Filling Station catalog is the one I have used.

Check out a homemade hood holder. Cost = $0.

Nice farmer fix ! I was thinking of some sky hooks. Yours would be easier to patent though. idea

Mike, the photo is posted in the Members photo area because I don't host my pics online. If you are a VCCA member, you can see the photos in that area.

Here is the one I'm talking about (One 1x2 with a couple of blocks of wood bolted onto the ends):

Thanks Dean, thats rustic backyard stuff. Might even get an award at next cruise nite LMAO..

There are 2 types I am familiar with.......one has a long center with shorter ends that fold back , that is attached to the firewall to radshell bars using small U clamps.

The better one is the one used by KENNYS CUSTOM a seller on ebay. Its actually a pair of aluminum hood side panel holders that mount from the rear of firewall with 2 small bolts. The mount has 3 mounting locations and its spring loaded. I have been using these since 96.

See if I can find any listed and post links to them.

I have a follow up question on hood props. My 31 has two curved hooks that are on the back side of the hood/bonnet at the handle. Aren't these supposed to be used in conjunction with some kind of prop bar to hold the hood open? I have them, but have never used them and can't see what they would hook onto.

They hook on the "V" radiator support rods.

I have taken a piece of music wire and bent it so it hooks both side or a single side using the radiator supports. It's cheap, easy to do and looks presentable at shows. Sorry I don't have a pic.

I personally will not use these things....I thought VT-41 was great until when I was putting the fenders on the 34. I put both sides of the hood up and within 15 minutes they came crashing down. The clips just rolled right off the V-rod. And there is now way that I can figure out how they did that. My friend Dave was there when it happened. We both said never again. Unless it was redesigned.

Of course Chipper. I've been just laying them over without latching to the v support. Makes sense, although only one side at a time.

The length of the 1x2 on my hood holder is 43 inches. This dimension works for my '28, but might need to be shortened or lengthened for other cars/trucks.

The point made about the hood coming down on the fenders has me rethinking my design. I'm going to add some foam rubber where the hood hits the little block and also think about some kind of latch to hook onto the hood handle for extra safety.

Cheers, Dean

secret to that dilemma is , get yourself a spray can of 3M #888 rubberized undercoating and spray them and magically they blend right into your firewall colour. If not the 3M stuff is paintable.
