Hi,
I just bought an engine (235) from a man who claims it came from a 1954 Chevy. It's got a three gear gearbox attached. I'm trying to figure out year and type of engine by reading the engine serial number, but it confuses me. The serial number reads LAK53864I, and I can't find this combination in the sources I find on the net.

He has posted a photo on the GM Nordiska Facebook-site: Here it is, it is no doubt about LAK:

Must be some "overseas" country? Sorry, however with the "L" it does seem to be a '53.

Kind of a sloppy job of stamping the numbers. What is the casting number on the block? Might be a replacement block or engine.
