Murphy, Ten years or so ago, I borrowed a friends target gage and had 10 or 15 copies made. I think I might have one of them left, if you're interested in it. Send me a PM.

The "genuine" Chevrolet Kent Moore Tool target gauge consisted of three different functions.First it targeted the oil line pipes.Seconed it checked the depth of the troughs and third it measured the dippers.Just a warning that the trough and dipper measurement is different between the 216 & 235 engines. This is due to the longer stroke of the 235 engine.Chevs of the 40s also rents out the gauge.

Excellent point, Chev Nut. I neglected to state that the target gauges I copied & produced were for the 216" engine. Thanks for pointing that out. There were seperate gauges for the 1934 Master, Standard, 1935-'36 and 235" cars & trucks with oil pan pipe assy's.

Kent Moore sold a 3-piece gauge set (J969) for checking the nozzles & dippers on the 216 engine. The set consisted of:
J969-1 Target Gauge - used for aligning the oil pan pipes assembly.
J969-2 Oil Pan Trough Depth Gauge - for checking oil trough depth and dipper heigth
J969-3 Oil Line Nozzle Depth Gauge - used to ensure oil pan pipe nozzles clear the dippers.

Chevsofthe40's will sell the 216 ('37-'53) gauges for $435.00 or will rent them for $35.00 + postage. The Filling Station and others may also offer this service.

I figure the Filling Station would be the way to go, pay for it up front. Then if it is returned in as received condition you get everthing back except for the $35 plus shipping?

EDITED

I was thinking the Filling Station and it should have been Chevys of the 40s

I rented one from Chevs of the 40's a couple months ago and everything worked out just fine. Had it in about a week and then returned it.By the way it was an old genuine Kent-Moore tool. Not a copy.
My pan was just about right on. Probably would have been OK to leave it as it was.
Missed one on E-Bay a couple of years ago before I knew how to properly go after something you really want. Sold for $35.00

The most important thing is to see that all of the oil pipes are clean and the oil is (or water for testing ) hitting the side of the pan in the same location under pressure.
