What is the correct fuel fitting for the inlet of the carb on my 29 coupe ?? The present one is straight and the fuel line bends 90 degres right away.Should the fuel fitting be 90 degres and the fuel line be straight ?

The fitting on the inlet of your carburetor should be straight. The copper fuel line is bent at a 90 degree angle into the fitting on the inlet of the carburetor.

The fuel line from the fuel pump to the updraft carburetor on the 1929-31 Chevrolets was copper. On the 1932 downdraft models the fuel line was steel.

I will disagree with JYD on this one. At least some if not all '29 lines from the fuel pump to the carburetor were brass. Sometime prior to '31 these were changed to steel. The copper lines that are often found on '29-31 Chevys are likely replacements. We are still attempting to document these lines. I have a steel line removed from my '31 Fire truck with factory quality bends. The truck had ~5000 miles on the clock when replaced with another steel line.

Well..here is another issue that Chipper and I will never agree on. Like Chipper, I have studied this issue for many, many years, and all of the Chevrolet documentation that I have clearly indicates that the fuel lines were copper. I usually don't go by restored cars as many parts have been changed over the years. The main items that I use in my research are original Chevrolet pieces of literature and etc. Like Chipper, I have seen several completely original, low mileage 1929-31 Chevys and they definitely had factory copper lines on them. But, again, different factories did different things, and this is probably one issue that will never get totally resolved one way or the other.

Thanks guys! I will likely use copper ,if not then steel because even if I could locate brass fuel line I dont know if I can bend it to the same tight radius. Great feedback , thanks again!!

Ref: to the Mail on the Fuel line from fuel pump to carburetor for the 31, I believe it was aluminum since I have taken two alum. lines from two different engines. One with somewheres around 40,000 miles and the other with around 60,000. Both were broken in the same place, that is right by the fuel pump, I would imagine due to vibration. I think these lines may have failed very early in the car's life for the majority of them and then were replaced with copper. That why you have seen so many with copper lines. Garages and even Chevy dealers probably stocked a roll of copper line. It fit any year and any model that came thru the door.
