I just purchased a 38 Master four door, which I believe may be called a Sport Sedan. It is being delivered to me next weekend. My New 38 Master The car is presently driveable and has been on the road for a number of years. Some years ago it was completely rebuilt. I will be doing some mechanical work to it before it goes for a safety check. I am very excited about this car.

Thanks. It is a Canadian model. It has not been modified other than using non original colors, at least in the interior. I believe the 216 was rebuilt and it sounds really good.

Thank you for all the great comments. I have a 38 Master project that I have been working on for five years. I decided that it is taking too long and will take an enormous amount of money to complete. I intend to sell it. I found this one, all rebuilt and running for a pretty decent price. I hope to be cruising in it in a few weeks.

A wise choice. I can't see spending years an a untold amount of money restoring a common type of car when there are so many available and you can enjoy driving them from the first day of ownership.

Chevgene,
I had the opportunity to take the car for a test drive. I must say that it rides a lot smoother than my 1 Ton truck! The brakes work but they take way too much effort. I think the rebuild happened more than twenty years ago. I think it is just easy for me to replace all the lines, hard and soft, redo all the hydraulics and install new shoes and maybe drums too. I had already purchased a set of new drums so they may come in handy. The gear shift is a lot lighter than my truck and the transmission does not whine like the truck. Actually the car is very quiet going down the road.

After sitting for many years (and even when driven regularly) the brake pistons tend to stick in the wheel cylinders. I would bet that is the problem. Your brake ocerhaul will take care of that.
The 1937-1939 transmission had a loud whine in first gear, sounds like an old car.
If the brake shoes look OK I would not replace them. The present day linings do not not have the friction power like the old abestos linings did.

Chevgene,
thank you for the great advice. I can't wait to get into it. It will arrive on a flatbed in a week.
