A heater was and accessory and the fresh air unit was an accessory so they both were either dealer or owner installed.

The heater is in the accessory book but the fresh air unit is not...How would one document that is correct for 48?

It is on page 415 of the 1948 parts book. See group # 8.845, part # 986184, intake unit, fresh air, ....will work only if you have the big Super Deluxe heater. Can not be used with other heaters.

Yes, I would describe it as being very wide. It is not pictured in the accessory brochure. I believe it was discontinued during the 1948 year. It says "Super Deluxe" on the front.
