Hello. Anybody have a few really good pictures of an original 1950 accessory steering wheel installed on their vehicle ? The one with the round center ..not the "rectangular" center with the " Chevrolet " script. I want to purchase one for my car...I have seen what are supposedly pretty good reproductions on Ebay and from different places selling repro parts around.

I have a " Genuine Chevrolet Accessories for 1950 " album , with pictures of everything,( what the dealers used for selling ) , it shows a picture, but it is hard to actually tell what the center design looks like. In my album, it looks like some kind of bird...not the best artistic rendition ..maybe they were changing the design and they just had to draw something for the album ? !

I don't want to buy something that is not correct , low quality or junky looking. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks all you gurus !

Are you speaking of the "butterfly wheel" ?

Here is the pic, from the '51 accessory manual.

If so, I have that reproduction wheel on the '51 I purchased. I could email you a pic of it, but cannot post pics on here, for some unknown reason.

The 1950 wheel is the same as the 1951-1952 other than a slight color change AND the horn button. The 1950 horn button is dome shaped and the 1951 has a recessed center.
Note that the repoduction wheel is one inch smaller in diameter so it will make the steering about 15% harder for parking, etc.
I have heard that hooking it up to make the horn work is a problem.

I will take a pic and send it to you, tomorrow, 5/8.

No answer for you on the horn hook up or connection.

The horn on mine works, but I was not the person who installed this wheel. I purchased this '51 from the estate of my late friend. No one to ask now, sorry to say.

I just sent you some pics, but am sorry they came out so dark. Car is in the garage, not enough light, even with the flash, to do the steering wheel justice.

Wheel measures 17" in diameter.

Hi,
I had similar issues a little while ago. I got a universal horn kit and one from a 55 (from memory), and with the parts from a standard horn button I made it made it work. If you are still having issues I can send a photo.
Ian.
