The CORRECT dealer or factory installed AC oil filter on a 1948 or 1949 was yelllow with a black lid. changed to blue with an orange lid in 1950. If factory installed it is black.(same filter different mounting)

Thanks for the overwhelming amount of info. After seeing the pics Ken has posted I will be painting the lid black and the lower part of the canister yellow, then applying the decal. THANKS Gene. It always amazes me the feedback that is shared on this chat site.

It amazes me also. We give out information that has taken many hours and $$$$ over the past 5 decades. Then cheapskates quibble about paying $ 40 per year to reap the benefits of VCCA membership. If they only would graciously pay for 10% of what they get the yearly dues would be still a bargain.

The bad news, do not apply the decal over the black paint...It will darken the yellow..Pic#1 is The 1st try...Then came take #2 Paint a piece of contact paper...Paste the decal to the paper. Cut it round. Remove the adhesive backing and apply to the canister...Do the same with the lid decal Doesn't look so good...Try, Try again ![[Linked Image from i563.photobucket.com]](http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/chefchevy/Oil%20Filters/eng321.jpg) The painted paper with decal attached ![[Linked Image from i563.photobucket.com]](http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/chefchevy/Oil%20Filters/FilterDecalB.jpg) Finished product ![[Linked Image from i563.photobucket.com]](http://i563.photobucket.com/albums/ss79/chefchevy/Oil%20Filters/FilterdecalA.jpg)
