Just purchased a complete engine that
That had the head and pistons in a box. To assemble does the piston number go on the top or bottom. Also is the anyway to identify which rod bearing goes to which piston nothing was marked

Are there ANY markings on the top of the pistons?

Look carefully at the rods and on the small end you may find a series of chip marks in either 1, 2, 3, and 4. Look all over the small ends of the rods for any mark either printed or chipped.

If you are a Member, go to the Tech Talk Thread and find "School is in Session". More information than you could possibly use on building a 28 engine.

Howdy,

I recently took the head off one of my 1928 engines. This engine has not been opened for the last 40 years that I'm aware of. Here is a pic that I took of the top of the block. There are markings and numbers. The piston numbers are facing the front of the engine.

Cheers, Dean

That is the way they are typically marked. When the pistons are removed and the top cleaned very well, you will probably learn even more information.
