Bought an original survivor 31 Chevy coach 2 weeks ago.

Original interior is serviceable and the original paint has the patina everyone is so crazy about nowadays.
I drove in the previous owners yard before buying.

I took the tank off today to clean it and maybe put gas tank liner/ sealer. The rust was very light and some of the galvanizing is still inside.

I bought an AC Delco GF124 filter. It is a little too wide at the bottom to fit down in the glass bowl far enough. I am going to try to trim a little from the filter element metal bottom to see if I can make it fit.

I think the proper (retrofit) fuel filter is GF149.

See here:

and I'm pretty sure that they are available from tfs

Hello senginc,
Welcome to Chevy Chat, and congrats on finding your new 1931 Chevy Coach. Did the Coach come with any manuals to assist you in maintaining it properly? Do you know about the tool storage box in the floor behind the drivers seat and possibly treasure to be found under the back seat? Who knows. It is interesting to hear about the history of these vehicles. There are three places to look for the information that is unique to each vehicle. 1- Serial Number plate, tacked to floor between right door sill and passenger seat. 2- Cowl Tag, riveted onto fire wall under the hood. 3- Engine Identification Code, located on block aft of distributor. From these, you can learn much about how the Coach came, when, where and what with (color and interior type). Because this forum talks about the 29 thru 32, always include your year and model so that you'll get correct information. Tell us a little about how you found the Coach. Congrats

Would love to see some photos, I'm about 80% thru a restore of a Canadian made '31 Coach, so it would be nice to have a series of p[hotos to compare to original. BTW, the tool tray is under the front seats, mine now has a 2 level tray I found on internet, did not have one when I got car 7 years ago. If you are really fortunate, all or most of the wood carcass will be solid, these are the most difficult parts to fix if gone bad. Cheers.

Hello senginc,
Well, with Dual Sidemounts you'll lead the parade. Mine has the one spare on the rear. I have the same Trim 1: Plush- for cushions, backs and sides, and Cotton Velvet- for headlining. The Paint #66 appears to be all Black with Cream Medium pin stripes. My Cowl Tag reads #72 for it's paint scheme. Your Coach appears to have been born in Janesville, Wisconsin. Mine came from Oakland, California. It is pretty interesting how these vehicles have traveled around the world and seem to wined up in far flung places still mainly intact, thanks to people who cared about and cared for them.

Go to FAQ & HELP on the top right of the page and click on that and another page will appear. Scroll down and click on "How do I add an image to my message?" However, I think that you have to be a member of the VCCA to post a photo.

I do not want paper magazines only electronic.

Do I sign up as "Canadian or International E-Membership: $18 (1 Year ) (electronic magazine only) " ?

My Electrolock is very erratic to get the key to work to turn on.

There are 3 different keys , one fits the door (it is also somewhat erratic). Maybe none of them are correct.

How do you remove the cylinder , later model GM's have the hole to stick a gem clip in on front to remove the cylinder.
I do a see 2 small holes on the edge of the locking ring.
Need a special home tool to grip locking ring I guess?

Any tips would be appreciated.

The electrolock lock cylinder and intermediate cylinder can be removed as a unit. Once it pops out then press the button that is covered by the screw on circular nut. The proper tool to remove the nut is a spanner wrench. It can often be done by wrapping a protective cloth or thin rubber pad on the nut and using pliers. Wiggle the assembly out of the outer case. There will be a key code number stamped on the outside of the assembly. Most locksmiths have the key code to verify the key is cut properly. If the lock is "sticky" and does not easily rotate then NOW is the time to have someone that is familiar with the workings of the lock service it. The two inter cylinders are die-cast metal and therefore swell with age. Once they swell enough to stick then the life of the lock assembly is short unless taken apart and resized. Once it seizes, it is junk.

Are you trying to join the VCCA on the Chat Forum site vccachat.org or the main vcca.org site. I suspect it is the former. If so you need to open the vcca.org homepage and then click on the "Join Us Today" box in the upper right. Once there it will be straight forward.

Try another User ID. Apparently someone else used that user ID before you tried to use it.
