Looking for any info on this dealership. I understand the business was started by Elder Hollingsworth around 1950, but that is all I've been able to find out. Any help appreciated.

My wife was raised in Aiken, in the 50's.

I will ask if she has any recollection of that dealership. dance

Limited info.

Wife states dealership was known as Hollingworth Chevrolet "Company".

She does not know when the dealership opened, but her Dad purchased a new 1956 Chevy BelAir 4 dr sedan from Hollingworth.

From pics I have seen of the '56, in the past, I saw dual exhaust, telling me it was a 265", 4 bbl, dual exhaust "power pack" engine.

Nothing more, sorry.

Thanks, any information is better than what I had. By any chance does your wife recall where in the Aiken area the dealership was located?

I just asked my wife about the location.

She did not visit the dealership with her Dad.

These events happened 60 plus year ago.

Name of dealership came up in family conversations, probably since their '56 came from Hollingsworth.

Wifes family lived north of downtown Aiken and north of the high school.

Her Dad worked at the "Savannah River Plant", known to locals as the "bomb plant". GEEZ.

Wife will try to find her high school yearbook, to see if Hollingsworth Chevrolet Company advertised in the yearbook. If so, that advertisement may show Hollingsworth address.

Bruce, you are welcome.

Search results are credited to my wife, showed her your note.

I am the third owner of my '51 Chevy, shown in my avatar.

I did the same search, found the selling dealer, Grovert Chevrolet in Newhall, Iowa still in business.

Now in the third generation of ownership (same family), they did not respond to my letter to them, with pics. Called them, was told they had no interest in cars sold by them in 1951. Sad, I thought.

One more thing, Bruce.

The info on Hollingsworth came from a 4" x 8" notebook/schedule, containing names of horses running at the "Aiken Training Track, Public Trials", meaning several horse races. First trial, second trial, etc., are shown in the notebook.

Hollingsworth info was printed on the cover of this notebook, as they were one of the sponsors for either the horse racing OR a sponsor for having this notebook/schedule printed.

My wife would not part with the notebook (belonged to her father), but I could forward pics of the notebook, for your friend, if you or he would desire.

I would need your email address to do so, do not have any luck posting pics here.
