I was driving my 1941 Chevrolet Master Deluxe, 216 inline six, totally original. The throttle cable from dash to carb broke causing the engine to go to extremely high R.P.M. I nursed the car back home, being nearly impossible to drive, due to being at high idle. A few months back, I replaced the carb and was able to connect the throttle cable, no problem. But this time, since the connection to the carb is completely missing, I have nothing to go from since I forgot how the old connection gets attatcched. I did run the cable through the hole in the accelerator shaft and placed a brass fitting with the 3/32 screw in it, but I don't feel it is the proper way because the idle is still sky high.

Sounds like you need to loosen the clamp where the cable housing is secured and give it some slack. That's assuming the wire is too short to give it some slack there. FYI the hand throttle isn't for street driving (although we've all done it at least once) anyway if you were using it for that. In the picture below the clamp I'm referring to is the one at the base of the arrow. Ignore the arrow. It was for a different issue. Loosen the clamp and slide the housing more toward the throttle linkage.

Hey, thanks for the pic. It was great how that pic showed how the throttle cable gets attatched. Is it possible for you to send me a pic of the top of carb with the accelerator cap off. I want to see how the the throttle rod attatched to the acc. pump rod and the spring .

Thanks...Gus

The rod does not attach to the accelerator pump or spring. It is attached to a Y shaped bracket that both the choke and throttle cables are attached to. The bracket is attached to the carb. by one of the air horn screws.
