Any ideas on how to get the mold release compound (the stuff they spray into the vulcanizing molds when making the tire) off of new tires? These tires have been on the shelf for 3 years, and when I try to get the nasty stuff off the sidewalls of the tires, I'm not having much luck. I've tried household spray cleaner, Simple Green, Bleche-White, etc. I also tried a little paint thinner (reluctantly) and it didn't do much either. What will remove this stuff without damaging the rubber??? All the Best, Chip

Maybe Goop Off or most likely weather strip adhesive remover

The mold release agent is similar to the wax on wax paper and must be dissolved with a solvent based cleaner followed by a "basic" wheel cleaner or degreaser. Repeat the procedure until the tires are squeaky clean. I find a medium stiffness nylon bristle brush works best. Follow up with a high quality rubber dressing containing UV stabilizers which supplement the UV-protection action in the carbon black.
