Thinking on having my outside door handles on my 47 re-chromed. I see both CO40s and Filling Station sell repros. Does anyone know anything about the repros? Are they correct, decent chrome and is the stem pre drilled for the locking set screw.
Appreciate anyone's opinion & advice.

Thanks; Dick

Dick,

I'm sure that if the repos were bad complaints would be noted by now. that being said, I would re-chrome my own rather than buy a repo. I think that a quality shop would do a better job on the chroming. I don't know that but it's not a bad idea to use your own original stuff when you can.

I also don't know if t he repos are pre-drilled but it is for dang sure that your originals are.

Best of luck in whatever you decide. Dick Moffitt does rechroming and it is my understanding that it is quite good. He has been in business a long time. All re-chroming is not the same. They all look good at first. Paul's there in PA and Tri-City Plating (Near Bristal, TN, I think) are also very good. I have had Paul's do work for me and it was first class. A little on the expensive side but like many things, you get what you pay for.

I saw some that had been rechromed. The chrome was beautiful, but they did not look original because the edges were all slightly rounded by the buffing process.

I bought a set of repros from Chevs of the 40s for my convertible. They are absolutely beautiful!! They came pre-drilled. As someone mentioned, a lot of time on items like these the chrome plater will grind/buff all the detail off. I highly recommend the repros.
