My question is whether the vehicle serial number tag on the driver's side door pillar of a 1949 Chevy is rivited on or installed with pan head screws? The authenticity of my 49 is being questioned because the vin tag is screwed on.

I would also say the ones I have seen are rivited about 10 inches above the belt line on the left front door post, however look at the picture in the 49 - 54 shop manual on the back of the section index page, it could be mounted with slotted pan screws???or am I just seeing things again???

Chevy-Fan:
I have a 1950 original not restored, and the serial tag is attached with two clutch head screws these are a # 6 X 1/4 inch long. I also purchased a 1950 parts car some 12 years ago from the second owner and I still have the title serial tag, screws that attach the serial tag and the tag from the cowl area under the hood, the serial tag on the parts car were attached with the same type of clutch head screws as my driver.
