1940 chev 1/2 ton. stock transmission with trucks tell overdrive with 4:11 rearend. Main box leaks out rear seal. would like to rebuild it and at the same time would like to replace rear gears with the 3:55 ring and pinion. Dose this idea sound like it would be the best way to get a comfortable highway speed?

Thankl you
Ron

If you have an overdrive with a 4.11 rear end the 3.55 gears are not necessary. In overdrive you have a final ratio of less than 3 to 1.

Hey thanks for the information. Just trying to get the speed up to the interstate speeds without changing the whole rear end assembly.
Thank You
Ron
