my buddie is trying to find out the best method of repair for his 34 master grill trim ring repair. It's broken at the bottom but otherwise in solid condition. he's looking to get it rechromed since this seems to be a very hard part to find.
also where would he find the bolt retainers that hold it in place. has anyone dealt with this company?

It looks like the way to correct this problem and I've contacted them with the photo and have yet to hear from them.

Gas welding this unless you are extremely skilled at welding can get you in a lot of hurt $$$ real fast. TIG or GAS MIG welding can also be dangerous unless a skilled person is doing it. I would not recommend brazing it.

The other alternative is to have the area SILVER SOLDERED together, very strong and silver solder can be worked . Talking to my friend Rick Fendley welder for 55 years. He strongly recommends silver solder and to do the application on the inside of the grill trim ring. He also strongly suggests you get the best highest quality of silver you can get.

A welding supplier of gases and other welding stuff should have the solder and the special FLUX available. Its not expensive, if I remember correctly it was about $20 ???

The clips on the inside, I think the thread size is 10/32 or less and if you can find a seller of clips they are basically flat about 3/4" long metal with the 10/32 as a stud welded onto them. The problem is getting the things into the grill trim ring sides.
Other solution is to get threaded bolt and grind sides of the flat and slip them thru trim ring slot and turn to lock them in place.

thanks for the reply. I think the welding would probably be left up to the chrome shop as they would know what will hold up to their processes. The clips he has left on his trim appear to be held in place by being fork shaped and crimped to the bolts. they look like a number 10 carriage bolt. possibly a 10-24 rather than the 10-32. I've looked online at several chrome shops. the one I posted about has yet to reply so I'm not sure if they are still in business and the other will have to be a phone call for my buddy or an email by me as he doesn't have a computer.

any pros or cons on these business's would be appreciated.

I remember in the late 60's and thru the 70's a lot of guys I know went to Michigan to a shop called GEM PLATING. They did outstanding work.

This is " the " primary part of the car that needs QUALITY WORK and only trust your part to those companies that have iron clad recommendations. There are too many clowns out there claiming to do good work and don't. Check with your friends to see who has had work done and how happy were they.......yah or nay

the only one I'm aware of in Michigan is Procter's. about 1.5 hrs from me. I found this guy on ebay and the have 100% positive feedback. they do a lot of car, boat and bicycle parts.

this will be another phone call / email. I'm surprised more people don't recommend who they use. When searching on this forum for info it seems like the ones people have used are out of business. I've posted this topic on another forum with "O" replies. bonk oh well....
thanks, bill

Be patient, keep looking. It is out there. You just have to find it. That is what makes this fun. Meeting folks along the way. I wish you luck.
