Many years ago, I worked for a new car dealer, who had a tire dept., and sold bias ply "Vogue Tyres", yes, with a "y".
Vogues were premium wsw tires, with a gold stripe, just next to the wsw.
Seems these Vogue Tyres were known to be out of round, so we invested in the "shaver machine", known in the shop, as the "tire gobbler".
Tire was mounted on this "gobbler machine", much like a dynamic wheel balancing machine. Tire was spun around, slowly, trued up, shaved .... much like the action of a lathe.
No matter how they convinced me this was a "good thing", it was not comfortable to see all the rubber shredding from the victim tire, stacking up on the floor.
