I just purchased what I believe is an original body to a '32 Chevy Moonlight Speedster. Now I need a roadster to put it on.

Welcome to Chevy chatter 32Moonlight. That is certainly a great find. There was also a similar body produced in 1929 for the vauxhall chassis. The two are similar looking , but not the same as each other. Some pictures would certainly help to identify the body. I can post them here for you if you need some help, let me know.

You need to have your pictures loaded to a picture hosting site like photo bucket and then link them into your posts. See FAQ and help above in blue. I have also sent you a PM. See flashing envelope next to My Stuff

I thought Moonlight speedster bodies were metal, not wood. That cowl does not look like a 1932 roadster either...

That dash just came with the purchase. Don't know what it's off of. Looking for a 32 Roadster with rebuilt mechanicals with lots of 'patina'.

The original moonlight speedsters were made from hand formed aluminium sheet. This looks like it might be the forming buck for the red copy 1932 speedster which is in the USA. But it is not true to the shape of the original GM-H body as it slopes off down the back more. Some one may even have used it to make a fibreglass mould. Anyway, someone has has used the Hurlngham shape to build this

It's a shame as I was hoping it was the real deal, there were a few of these around in the early 60s and it seems most were cut up and they have all disappeared,I was hoping one had survived. It would be good if we can see Ron's slide and compare with this one and see if they are one and the same.

There was a '32 roadster on ebay last year exactly as you describe. $20k would have got it for you...

Here's the "one" that is in the USA. Try to match it to the photos above.

That red and black one here in the US is really something. I guess whether the wooden body I bought is a buck or something some guy made in his garage many many years ago, it's still an awesome piece. I do plan on putting it on a chassis and making it the coolest thing you've ever seen, patina and all. My past history at things like this is pretty good. Five of my vehicles have broke world records for the most money ever paid. I live and breathe vintage cars.

The 1931 and 1932 Chevrolet Hurlingham Roadsters / Moonlight speedsters are a much nicer body than the earlier Vauxhall Hurlinghams.

Thanks for posting the photos Bill, the side shot really shows the shape of the body and the rear shot shows the lines, there is a 1934 Master Roadster and a 1927 Truck either side. I think the wooden body in previous photos has a cut down Sedan cowl and a friend is posting me 2 slides he took in 1973 of what I think will be the same body that had sedan doors and cut down sedan cowl and it was for sale as an unfinished project. I will have them scanned and post them on this site. The Speedster in the photos above has an aluminium body over a timber frame from the firewall back bar the side aprons , rear mudguards (fenders)and petrol tank cover.

Thanks for posting those photos Bill, the first two are scans from the previously mentioned slides courtesy of 345chevy and I don't think there is much doubt that it is the same body that 32moonlight has discovered recently. It would be interesting to know a little more about it and who built it.

Has anyone seen the home made wooden speedster discussed in previous posts here for sale on Hemmings? It,s for sale under 1932 Chevrolet for $120,000. The description alone is worth reading.

Here's a photo of this car. As most folks in the VCCA know, there is some significant controversy surrounding this specific "car".

While the '32 Speedster that was designed and sold in Australia was a legitimate Chevrolet vehicle, the parts on this car are not from that original design effort. There is overwhelming evidence of this.

As an Australian member and Chevrolet owner I am appalled at the completely fabricated story about this wooden home made speedster that was for sale at Hershey in 1973 as an abandoned project then on ebay in 2015 and the amount of publicity it is receiving.
The current owner states in the quote below.
------------------------------------
"" 1932 Chevrolet Confederate. What makes this car different is that by the end of the Summer the body will have been replaced with the world's only factory made [in 1932] Chevrolet wooden boat tail speedster body; which I own. I bought the speedster body from an elderly gentleman's estate in Ohio who acquired it in 1934 from Chevrolet after they were going to toss it after they had no use for the pattern any more. He stuck it in his barn for 80 years to preserve it. Only one of these original speedsters has survived. It's in Australia. Chevy called it the Moonlight Speedster. When I'm finished, it will present itself to the classic car world in grand style and will get the respect it's due after all these decades.""
---------------------------------------
The design for the Vauxhall Hurlingham or Chevrolet Moonlight Speedster was first on sale in 1929 on the Vauxhall Chassis and they were all built at Luton in England and the Chevrolet Moonlight Speedsters were first on display and for sale in Australia in early June 1931 and were all built at Woodville in South Australia.
How can the wooden body supposedly built in 1932 in America be a prototype as advertised in Hemmings where the wooden car is for sale when the body style was first used in 1929 and then 1931 in Australia.
On facebook there are photos of a very nice blue 1932 2-door Coach that was sacrificed to fit the wooden body to.
The owner of this wooden car is trying to alter history without any evidence other than what he chooses to write, if you read the previous posts you can see photos of a real 1932 Chevrolet Moonlight Speedster and see how this story has evolved.

The first thing anyone curious about this car is going to do is "google it".

When I googled it, I see that there are already some other posts on the internet questioning the authenticity and google brings this thread up as well early in the list. Maybe this info will end up on more social media sites and expose the truth.
