An "original" 1953 for sale, that has been "restored", and now parked inside, after it has been "rebuilt".

A 1951 Chevy with a "new 6 cylinder crate motor". A CRATE MOTOR?Look at the pics of this "new crate motor".

The 53 looks good, although if you want to sell a car like that get a good camera and photograph it outside. The price may be a little high, but ,maybe there is some wiggle room there. Not 53s' most desirable color combo either...I prefer the dark color on the bottom.

The 51 looks ok, but, the price is way too high for the condition....crate motor????

My 2 cents,

Dave

Just sayin', it's either "original" or "restored" or "rebuilt", but not all three.

Crate motor for a 1951 216? Then look at the actual engine pic, not too new looking, no matter what it's called.

Buyer beware should be title of this thread.

The "53 is in the ball park. What color is it? Every picture is different.

New crate motor?
In 1951 you could purchase an engine in three different forms.
A bare block. came with block and main bearings. Seldom sold unless to replce a cracked block on a low mileage vehicle. Had no serail number.
A short block. Block came with crankshaft, camshaft, pistons rods and timing gears. Was kept. in stock for common applcations by most dealers. Used to replace a generally worn-ot engine. No serial number.
The complete engine. Was an engine taken off the engine production line. Came less carburetor, distributor, fuel pump, fan. Came with every thing including the valve cover, flywheel housing, clutch, spark plugs, head, valves, and oil pump and pan. Had engine serial number stamped on the pad. Often was current year engine and sold to cover a few previous yeas application. We stocked one or two for heavy duty trucks as they were faster and easier to instlall and the truck engines were run until they died.
All of the above came in a wooden crate except a few came in heavy cardboard which proved to be too weak for the weight.

Car mentioned is being advertised with a "new crate motor".

1951 Chevrolet with New Crate Motor - $9500

A crate motor does not exist, as advertised in ad.

The point is ... buyer beware, when following up on ads for our vintage autos.
