Needs some help on installing the upper bearing on the 47 steering mast. Its the one with the horn wire attached. Is it tapped in with a socket or? Is any silicone or similar used? how far does it go in? Any help is appreciated.

This horn bushing is a light press into the mast jacket. This upper mast jacket horn bushing is maybe a strong one inch in length. However, only a very small amount of the bushing is actually pressed into the steering column. The rest of the upper mast jacket bushing has clearance and does not even touch the mast jacket / ie. steering column. I bought a reproduction upper mast jacket bushing once and threw it away. It was made with a lot of plastic. New Old Stock Chevrolet originals fit great and work great.

I dont get it, Im kind of new to this year. The old upper bushing has ball bearings with the horn wire attached. It is about half inch inside the steering column. Are we talking about the same thing? thanks
