I searched forum first and lost patience. 1938 Chevrolet 216 stock engine.
1. What is the normal operating oil pressure as shown on the gauge
2. Is the parking brake accessory handle interchangeable between 1937-1938?
Thank you as always

Do your search in this manner.

Go to Google.

Type in "oil pressire 1938 216 chevy vcca"

This is what came up.

vcca must be included at the end of whatever you're looking for, in order for the search to go through vcca items.

The oil prssure on a 1938 engine is 13 pounds at 50 MPH with fully hot oil. Will drop to about 3 pounds at idle.
The oil pump pressure was incrreased in 19440 to give more pressure at idle.
1937 and 1938 hand rkae levers are completely different.

The parking brake extension is a one year item I believe. If I remember postings from Gene correctly the parking brake lever was under the dash in '39 and as Gene noted the '37 is completely different. If you find one you'll likely have to pay a premium since they are pretty rare. I got extremely lucky and found a VCCA member with one to sell for a reasonable price.

The 37 is longer than the 38. They are completly different. I see both on ebay from time to time for about $100 - $150.

My friend is working on reproducing the knob for the 38 brake extention and the accessory shift knob.

-I try to pick up any 38 accessories when they are available at a reasonable prices. I haven't picked up much.
-Oil pressure was a concern when it dropped below 15 until I read this post. I had a 48 Dodge that sat at 30.
Thanks all you guys are awesome.

The Dodge and all other 1938 cars except Hudson and Chevrolet had full pressure oiling. (Hudson had an oil light). Chevrolet had the full pressure to just the msin bearings so a higher pressure was not necessary. In other makes the crankshaft was drilled so the oil pumped to the main bearings had to pass thru drilled openings in crankshaft to lubricate the main bearings and from there went to the rod bearings..
When Chevrolet went to full prssure oiling in 1953 the oil pressure was more than doubled.
