Wondering about the floor pan bump, a domed hump about 5 inches in diameter at the center and about 7 inches from the rear edge on '46 trucks (1/2 ton). Anyone know the purpose? Clearance for torque tube and transmission don't appear to be a factor.

If there was a 4wd option it may be to allow clearance for transfer case.

4WD may have been an option I'm unaware of. If so, my guess is there would have been so few sold that production-wise it would have been more cost effective to modify the few units sold (comparatively) and needing the modification.

It seems odd the feature would be added without a purpose or reason.

The bump you mention is only on the 4 speed floor pans. I just removed my 4 speed to replace with a three speed and the three speed pan is flat.

Thanks, Bogart. I found my '29-'48 Master Parts Catalog, finally. Strangely, it indicates the only difference between the floor pans for 3 vs 4 speeds is the cut section for the shifter, a round hole vs a square one. In checking the drawings provided in the catalog there doesn't look like there is any thing aft of the gear shift protruding upward with the 4 speed that would require additional clearance such as the domed 5 inch (approx) diameter section compared to the 3 speed. It seems the mystery continues. bonk :

Could your tran. be removed from the top like in my '36? In place of dropping out from the bottom?

It sure looks like there is more than enough clearance to do it that way.
