We were advised by a wiper repair service to look for a replacement motor made after 1932 and that the original 31 motor is not worth rebuilding although it was working when taken out of service many years ago.
Hi Lynda,I do not know what 31 Chevy you are working on but,my 31 Coach Wiper is run by a vacuum line that comes off the manifold, not an electric motor---is this what you are looking to get fixed,I may have a vac. wiper in my pile of goodies!! If it is an electric motor it is surely an aftermarket addition I think.Shoot me a PM if you like,I also am in NJ---maybe I can help you out,Jay
The way that I read Lynda's post is that she has the original vacuum 1931 wiper motor that worked many years ago, but she was advised to find a later replacement because many of the early wiper motors (like the 1931) cannot be rebuilt.
Lynda, I suggest that you have someone else check out your 1931 wiper motor since some of them are rebuildable if the pot metal body of the wiper motor is not badly warped.
Also, the '31 wiper motor is exterior mounted, and has a unique connection to wiper arm and blade. Later wiper motors were mounted inside and had different arms etc. A '31 wiper cannot be installed inside as windshield regulator mechanism is in the way. I bought a rebuilt '31 wiper motor 4 years ago for about $125, works perfectly.
